Anti-racism at Centre for Mental Health
After two years delivering against their anti-racism strategy, the Centre wanted to review progress against targets, refresh their strategic approach, and re-invigorate their approach to anti-racism.
I developed a quantitative and qualitative approach, including a survey building on a baseline from 2021, which informed a series of compassionately-held interviews and focus groups with stakeholders at all levels of seniority. I held intentional space for constructive conversations, often rooted in pain, fear and overwhelm.
As part of a statistical and thematic analysis, I disaggregated data according to participant’s racial identity, to explore the specific challenges, barriers and suggestions for Black, POC and white staff specifically. This resulted in a strategic report and presentation to staff, outlining findings, exploring racial justice theory and practice, and making recommendations based on these.
As part of the Centre’s implementation of this renewed strategy, I delivered a whole-team anti-racism training day, focused on embodied approaches to divesting from white supremacy culture and connecting with rest as a function of anti-racism.

Testimony:
“Kahra is an outstanding consultant whose work with us at Centre for Mental Health has been of the highest quality.
“Kahra helped us review our antiracism work and brought integrity, independence, thoroughness and kindness to the process. She didn't just produce an excellent, insightful and deeply considered report, she enabled us to reflect on our own progress and provided us with a safe and friendly space to speak openly and honestly about where we are [on anti-racism] and where we want to be. Her work is helping us to progress our work to tackle racism and white supremacy culture in all that we do.
“I would recommend Kahra to anyone considering working with her to help their organisation make a bigger contribution to equality, equity and justice.“
