Peer research at Kent Student Union

I was commissioned by Kent Student Union to manage two concurrent peer research projects, led by LGBTQIA+ and International students, to understand the experiences of their peers at Kent, and produce a report with recommendations on how to improve campus life for these groups.

Over eight months, I supported the four student researchers to develop a listening framework and gain insights from around 1500 peers.

We produced two comprehensive reports including detailed statistical and thematic analyses based on data disaggregated according to demographics in order to explore the specific experiences of students with intersecting experiences of marginalisation (particularly trans, racialised and disabled students). We also included specific recommendations and implementation suggestions for the University and student union to drive equity for these student groups.

Additionally, I supported the student researchers to confidently present key findings and recommendations to the union’s Board of Trustees.
